Precision Camera is teaming up with professional landscape photographer Mandy Lea to offer an adventurous workshop capturing the stunning scenery of the Big Bend region of West Texas. Mandy will guide you to beautiful locations throughout Big Bend National Park; including classic views of the Chisos Basin, Santa Elena Canyon, and the Rio Grande River. If that’s not enough, you will also get the opportunity to explore other photogenic areas nearby, like the Terlingua Ghost Town and Big Bend Ranch State Park.

Feel like adding a little more excitement to your trip to Big Bend? Then join our Big Bend Adventure Days Spring Workshop immediately following the Photo Classics. During these extra days we’ll journey to a few shooting locations that are a little harder to reach. Your effort will be rewarded with amazing views that not all park visitors get to see. We’ll even head south of the border to the small town of Boquillas, Mexico!

The Big Bend area of West Texas is known for fascinating geology, diverse biology, and vast open spaces. Rugged peaks, chiseled canyons, unique desert plant life, and the darkest of dark skies make this region a rare gem for photographers of all levels. Combine all of this with the unique culture that results from the area’s proximity to Mexico and it’s hard not to fall in love!

Mandy utilizes significant time in the field to help you understand the basics of camera settings, composition, and lighting. We will end the workshop with a few hours in the classroom reviewing student’s images and discussing basic editing tips.

Don’t let Mandy’s youthful appearance fool you – she is a very experienced landscape photographer. She is also dedicated and thorough – she arrived days early to scout out the locations to insure that our shoots went well (and so that she could get there in the dark – critical for our sunrise shoots). While she probably thought she was herding cats, she always got the 12 of us to our locations in time for us to fumble with our gear in the dark, pre-sunrise hour. Following our sunrise shoots, we visited a variety of locations in Big Bend NP and SP, shooting grand vistas and smaller details. The days ended with a sunset shoot, and moon permitting, a few Milky Way shoots. We concluded our excursion with a thoughtful (and helpful) photo review. All together it was a wonderful experience. I’d love to shoot with Mandy anytime, anywhere. David S.

Just returned home from the West Texas Photo Excursion and Adventure Days with Mandy Lea.

I absolutely loved the program – Mandy is an incredible instructor!! She has serious talent. We visited some exciting places to take photos too. I am so happy that I took advantage of this opportunity.

Mandy, thank you for going above and beyond each and every day of the program. You were so relaxed and friendly, making all of us feel very comfortable using our cameras and trying new processes some of us had never tried before. It was such a pleasure to work with you. I really enjoyed the locations you took us to – I loved the trails we hiked and of course the milky way shots were amazing! I really appreciate the extra time you put in to make this course so valuable.

I am pleased with my photos and can see progress in my photo journey- you have an incredible eye for a great shot and you are willing to share your insights. I will definitely recommend you to others.

Attended the workshop in October and was completely satisfied with not only the tips and suggestions on how to better my skills but with Mandy’s knowledge of the park! Had us up early and on time to great locations for sunrise photos as well as sunset! Highly recommended her classes for anyone from novice to professional! Looking forward to the next time I can attend one of her workshops!
