Have an extra large spirit for adventure? So do professional landscape photographers Mandy Lea and Kendrick Callaway! The Big Bend region is enormous and you simply can’t see it all in a few days. While the first part of our Big Bend Photo Classics Workshop focuses on easier to reach vistas (nothing longer than about a mile hike) these extra two days will pack in a lot of adventure for those with a little extra energy. We will hike up to 6-8 miles per day over steep, rocky terrain.
We will shoot locations both days for sunrise and sunset. Our group will enjoy great photo opportunities reached by classic and lesser-known hikes within the National Park. One of our sunrise locations is a favorite amongst students who have taken both of our West Texas workshops! And if that isn’t enough, we’ll go to Mexico! There is a legal border crossing into the small town of Boquillas del Carmen, a slightly run down yet charming place that’s chalk full of unique photographic opportunities. Plus, they serve a mean margarita! You MUST have a valid U.S. Passport to join on this day.
This workshop will be limited to 8 participants. Please note that there will be a lot of moderately difficult hiking (some at over 5,000 feet elevation) and that temperatures can sometimes be in the 90’s or even 100’s. We keep a constant eye on the weather forecast and the schedule could change based on conditions and temperatures.
You can choose to sign up for only these two days or save by adding it on to the earlier workshop. This workshop can be added onto the Big Bend Photo Classics Workshop at a discounted rate ($249) or taken as a standalone workshop ($349).
The fee includes the workshop only. Transportation, lodging, park entry fees, food, and other miscellaneous expenses are not included. About a month before the workshop all registrants will receive an email with a rough itinerary and planning details.
We recommend staying at the Big Bend Resort & Adventures in Terlingua. The group will explore both the National and State parks, which makes Terlingua a great central location. In addition to the motel, this location also offers the option of RV/tent camping with electric and water hookups.

Route 118 at Route 170 – Terlingua TX 79852
It is highly recommended to stay in or as close to Big Bend Resort & Adventures as possible to facilitate early departures for shooting sunrises.
Transportation to/from Terlingua and during the workshop is the responsibility of each participant. During the workshop carpooling will be necessary due to limited parking at several of the shooting locations. We will do our best to help coordinate carpooling. There will also be a fee per vehicle for entering the National Park and per person for the State Park. National Park Passes and Texas State Parks Passes are accepted at each.

Other Things to Consider:
Non-shooting spouses/friends: We understand this workshop may fall into your vacation time and you might have a spouse or friend you’d like to join along for sight-seeing, and we are thrilled to have them along! Considering the limitations of our operating permits and all of the work we have put into our scouting; we ask a $150 be paid for each additional “non-photographing” attendee who plans to join the group on-location. If you are registering for BOTH the Classic Days and Adventure Days, then your spouse fee from the Classic Days will cover your spouse during the Adventure Days, too. Once you have registered yourself for the workshop, please contact Mandy at firstname.lastname@example.org to take care of this fee.
Physical Fitness: Most shooting locations will be at or near parking areas. However, some locations may require a short stretch of easy-to-moderate, slightly uphill hiking on potentially rocky, uneven terrain. So, comfortable hiking shoes/boots are recommended.
Insurance: Travel insurance and/or refundable tickets are highly encouraged as weather or other factors may cause last minute changes or cancellations to the workshop.
