Have an extra large spirit for adventure? So does professional landscape photographer Mandy Lea! The Big Bend region is enormous and you simply can’t see it all in a few days. While the first part of our Big Bend Photo Classics Spring Workshop focuses on easier to reach vistas (nothing longer than about a mile hike) these extra two days will pack in a lot of adventure for those with a little extra energy. We will hike up to 6-8 miles per day over steep, rocky terrain.
We will shoot locations both days for sunrise and sunset. Our group will enjoy great photo opportunities reached by classic and lesser-known hikes within the National Park. One of our sunrise locations is a favorite amongst students who have taken both of our West Texas workshops! And if that isn’t enough, we’ll go to Mexico! There is a legal border crossing into the small town of Boquillas del Carmen, a slightly run down yet charming place that’s chalk full of unique photographic opportunities. Plus, they serve a mean margarita! You MUST have a valid U.S. Passport to join on this day.
This workshop will be limited to 8 participants. Please note that there will be a lot of moderately difficult hiking (some at over 5,000 feet elevation) and that temperatures can sometimes be in the 90’s or even 100’s. We keep a constant eye on the weather forecast and the schedule could change based on conditions and temperatures.
You can choose to sign up for only these two days or save by adding it on to the earlier workshop. This workshop can be added onto the Big Bend Photo Classics Spring Workshop at a discounted rate ($249) or taken as a standalone workshop ($349).
The fee includes the workshop only. Transportation, lodging, park entry fees, food, and other miscellaneous expenses are not included. About a month before the workshop all registrants will receive an email with a rough itinerary and planning details.
We recommend staying at the Big Bend Resort & Adventures in Terlingua. The group will explore both the National and State parks, which makes Terlingua a great central location. In addition to the motel, this location also offers the option of RV/tent camping with electric and water hookups.

It is highly recommended to stay in or as close to Big Bend Resort & Adventures as possible to facilitate early departures for shooting sunrises.
Transportation to/from Terlingua and during the workshop is the responsibility of each participant. During the workshop carpooling will be necessary due to limited parking at several of the shooting locations. We will do our best to help coordinate carpooling. There will also be a fee per vehicle for entering the National Park and per person for the State Park. National Park Passes and Texas State Parks Passes are accepted at each.
